1And David spoke to the LORD the words of this song on the day when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Sheol.2And he said, "The LORD is my Rock and my stronghold and my refuge."3God, my Rock—in him I take refuge, my Shield and horn, my salvation, my high place and my refuge, my savior. He saves me from violence.4From my distress I call to the LORD, and from my enemies I am saved.5For the breakers of death surrounded me; the torrents of Belial terrified me.6The cords of Sheol surrounded me; the snares of Death came before me.7In my distress I called to the LORD, and to my God I called. He heard my voice from his Temple, and my cry was in his ears.8Then it quaked and the earth shook; the foundations of the heavens trembled and quaked because it burned for him.9Smoke went up from his nostrils, and fire from his mouth consumed them; coals blazed from him.10He stretched out the heavens and came down, with thick darkness under his feet.11He rode on a cherub and flew, and he appeared on the wings of the Spirit of God.12He made darkness his covering, thick clouds of the skies full of water.13From the shining before him coals of fire burned.14The LORD thundered from heaven, and the Most High gave his voice.15He sent out arrows and scattered them; with lightning he thundered.16And the nostrils of the sea saw; the foundations of the earth were revealed from the rebuke of the LORD, from the breath of the wind of his nostrils.17He sent down from on high, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.18He saved me from my enemies, mighty one, from my haters, for they were stronger than me.19They confronted me in the day of my calamity, and the LORD was a support to me.20And he brought me out into a spacious place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.21The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness, according to the purity of my hands; he will return to me.22For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and I have not been wicked toward my God.23For all his justices are before me, and as for his statutes, I have not turned aside from them.24And I was unblemished before him, and I kept myself from my iniquity.25And the LORD repaid me according to my righteousness, according to my purity before his eyes.26With the faithful you show steadfast love; with the mighty you are blameless.27With the pure you show yourself pure, and with the crooked you show yourself twisted.28You rescue the afflicted, but your eyes look down on the haughty and bring them low.29For you are my lamp, O LORD, and the LORD will illuminate my darkness.30For in you I run through a troop; in my God I leap over a wall.31The God—his way is blameless. You have said: the LORD is refined. He is a shield to all who seek refuge in him.32For who is God apart from the LORD, and who is a Rock apart from our God?33God is my stronghold and might, and he makes my ways perfect, blameless.34He makes my feet like those of deer, and he causes me to stand on my high places.35He trains my hands for war, and my arms can bend a bronze bow—my arms.36You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand has upheld me.37You widen my steps beneath me, and my ankles do not stumble.38I pursue my enemies and destroy them, and I will not return until their destruction.39And I devoured them and crushed them, and they will not rise; they fell under my feet.40You girded me with strength for battle; you made my foes bow down beneath me.41You have given my enemies to me by the neck; from my haters, and I destroyed them.42They cried out, but there was no savior for them from the LORD, and he did not answer them.43I ground them to powder like the dust of the earth, like the mud in the streets. I pulverized them; I trampled them.44You delivered me from my controversies with my people; you made me head of nations; peoples I did not know will serve me.45Foreigners will submit to me; as soon as they hear me, they will obey.46The sons of foreign gods will wither and will come trembling from their enclosures.47The LORD lives! Blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God, the rock of my salvation!48The God who gives vengeance to me, and who brings peoples down under me.49And you who bring me out from my enemies and from my risers, you exalt me from a man of violences; you rescue me.50Therefore I will thank you, LORD, among the nations, and to your name I will sing praise.51He shows the greatness of the salvations of his king, and he does steadfast love to his anointed, to David and to his seed forever.
